Kolkata: West Bengal fire minister Javed Khan was left red faced in the Assembly on Monday when he failed to answer a starred question put by an Opposition member, till his cabinet colleagues came to his rescue.
Forward Block member Tajmul Hossain`s starred question as to how many fire incidents had taken place in the state between February and May this year was left unanswered by the minister who said that the information was not available with him.
Soon Opposition members were up on their feet holding a piece of paper containing the answer and attacked the minister for not being able to give the reply.
Ministers Partha Chatterjee and Subrata Mukherjee rushed to Khan`s rescue and started sifting the papers the hapless minister was holding in his hand and found the right sheet containing the answer for him.
Khan said that a total of 321 fire incidents took place in the state during the period.
