Midnapore/Malkangiri: In a string of
attacks, Maoists on Friday killed a CPI(M) worker, triggered a
landmine blast and torched three vehicles in West Bengal`s
West Midnapore district, besides blowing up a panchayat
building in neighbouring Orissa`s Malkangiri.
CPI(M) worker Santosh Dutta was fatally stabbed by at
least four armed Maoists near his house in Belpahari area in
the wee hours, police in West Midnapore district said.
Dutta succumbed to injuries on way to Bankura Medical
Ultras also blew up a culvert in Salboni area with a
landmine this morning and set ablaze two mini-trucks and a
pick-up van at Jamboni area, they said.
In Orissa`s Malkangiri district, around 100 armed rebels
stormed into Malabaran village and blew up with landmines a
panchayat building used for accommodating security forces
during anti-Naxal operations, Inspector In-Charge of Motu
Police station S K Taoria said.
The Maoists shouted anti-government slogans before
disappearing into the forests, he said.
About a dozen panchayat, schools and godowns have been
destroyed by the ultras so far this year.
