Kolkata: The West Bengal government provided
a fax and a phone number for information on the whereabouts of
an IB officer and his friend, who were abducted from Purulia
district on October 22 by suspected Maoists, but the
authorities were still groping on Wednesday.

"There is no development, but we are optimistic about
it," West Bengal Home Secretary G D Gautama told reporters
here.

A mobile number 9051399183 and a tele-fax number
2214-5486 were given to public yesterday by the Additional
Director General of Police (Law and Order) S Karpurakayastha
to get information on the whereabouts of the abducted duo.

The IB officer Partha Biswas and his friend Soumyajit
Basu were abducted from the Ayodhya area of Purulia district
by suspected Maoists.

Yesterday, however, top Maoist leader Kishenji had said
he had no information about the two.
