No question of removing Jadavpur University VC, says Bengal minister

West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee today said that there was no question of removing Jadavpur University vice-chancellor Abhijit Chakrabarty unless he himself so desired and made a fresh appeal to the agitating students to return to their classes.

Kolkata: West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee today said that there was no question of removing Jadavpur University vice-chancellor Abhijit Chakrabarty unless he himself so desired and made a fresh appeal to the agitating students to return to their classes.

"I once again appeal to the students to return to their studies. I hope good sense will prevail on them," Chatterjee told reporters here.

On the removal of the VC, he said, "If he (VC) does not want, there is no question of removing him".

The agitating students, who continued to boycott classes despite the government instituting a five-member committee to probe the alleged sexual harassment of a girl student, have demanded resignation of the VC for calling the police inside the campus in the wee hours of September 17.
