PM breaks silence, hits out at sensationalism Kolkata: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday warned against "growing intolerance" among Indians and said public debate seemed to have become a "hostage to sensationalism".

"In recent times, I have been observing a growing intolerance among our people of dissent and opinions that contradict the prevailing orthodoxy," the Prime Minister said here.

"Public debate is often hostage to sensationalism," PM said.

Manmohan Singh said this in a speech after being named General President of the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA). "We seem to be losing ability to engage in a rational discourse where different points of views are expressed," he added.

"I sometimes fear that a growing culture of narrow mindedness might affect the creative, innovative and imaginative instincts of our youth," he said.

"I urge the doyens of the scientific community to speak out and make more effective contributions to an informed and reasoned debate on the issues before the nation. The voice of our scientists is important and should be heard."

Manmohan Singh emphasised the need to use science as the means to fuel the country's development.

"The burden on science in the future will only increase. Our problems are overwhelming and need scientific solutions.

"We have to use our abundant intellectual resources to find new pathways of development that use our scarce natural resources judiciously," he said.

The ISCA is marking its centenary year celebrations.

Manmohan Singh is right. He must have concern over growing intolerance, since last seven years these people were tolerating horribly blood bathed bydue to madly screwing by Congress lead UPA govt.So far they tolerated the horrible pain in spite of fooling them by greasing with statements of global recession, then US` economic collapse, monetary crisis of Europe etc., for the devastation of Indian economy, they suffered the pain of loss of job, lack of opportunities of better jobs, lack of liquidity in market, closer of small and medium scale industries, four fold increase in prices of edibles, house rent, real estate, fuel and cereals and vegetables, etc.,table. Then why don`t they tolerate till next election!!! Can there be any scientific solution when economic ideas fail? According to me there is. But Manmohan hardly agree to seek mandate for any other party to take the lead. The day Congress will be dethrone the Indian economy will start improve rapidly. There are reasons to believe it..

May I request the Hon`ble Prime, who happens to be the Leader of the Parliament and, as Pt Nehru taught us, the 1st Servant of the People Of India to tell us whether in his considered views there is not a single Honourable Member Of The Parliament appearing to be of Unsound Mind. Our Constitution mandates against such person to be qualified to be a member of the Parliament. But no enabling provisions have been legislated, and We, the People of India suffer the most - facing pure, 24 carat Catch 24. I fail to understand why our Honourable Primew Minister has opted to be in the worst company! I request the Hon`ble Prime Minister to practise being a little more thick skinned. It will keep him hale and hearty. Further he Should Smile Regularly. Better he should promote cartooning, particularly in SCHOOL TEXTBOOKS in order to enhance flow of pure and fresh blood i

Let what may come we will appreciate your immediate action to make people name public who have bank accounts. We need leaders who can take actions and do good for this country.

Dear All, Hopeless politicians and parelysed leaders run away to answer PUBLIC voice! While there is a saying by our legends ``CAT DRINK MILK BY CLOSING THE EYES AND THINK THAT NOBODY WATCHING IT``, such is our INDIAN GOVERNMENT! Prime Minister Sirji, we INDIANS watching everything and nothing is hidden from us, but we are helpless to raise our voice, because our own people behind to see our end of our own people and our JUDICIAL SYSTEM become paralysed and corrupted, so common citizen cannot expect the SOCIAL JUSTICE. Really I am fed up with the cheap tactics of our own beloved country citizen. I haven`t found the answer for my raised question that ``DO WE REALLY CARE FOR OUR COUNTRY INDIA``. Our country citizens never speak nor act wise until unless any nature disaster took place. May GOD give sense to our beloved Hon`ble Prime Minister of INDIA to speak always for knowing public grievances In fact he is a NATION SUPREMO. JAI BHARATH...

With great respect to Mr. Singh, i am sorry but the intolerance is not increased but the limit of the corruption has crossed by too far and information can not be kept hidden for long time.People are well informed now and they too take interest in national issue. Politician have to realised that they can not take the people for granted and they will have to accountable and people will ask tough question. their act is monitored by media and people and if they do well they will get good response form the people too but if thye do not perform and use his position for hid benefits then they can not escape now.

Sir, Every time we hear in the media on tv that a particular politician is sent to jail for some serious act of corruption . Subesquently after some months in the court of law he is made clean and released. Why can such court proceedings be shown on TV so that the general public will know the basis of the judgement passed by our legal system which has become a clean chit giver to our corrupted ,politicans

Yes, we cannot tolerate a man at a higher level giving impetus to corruption and protecting them. The PM cannot use his image as protection to any kind of corruption. When you are using CBI for investigation that by itself create a doubt. Use any neutral agency not working under you.

i P.M think so he must recommend for ``emergency`` to her party presidents as he is certainly not entitled for any decision, P.M should have ordered S.I.T instead of responding to allegations by team Anna on him & his ministers, by orderings C.B.I inquiry P.M himself accepted that he is not ``honest``, C.B.I the most inefficient & incompetent agency it has been proved in almost every case their ``success`` rate is 6%, as student minimum grade C required to upgrade in next class, P.M not only insulted himself but the entire nation by accepting C.B.I probe ordered on his government directions to C.V.C, result is well known to the nation without any investigation, entire political class is clean & those who are raising voice are corrupt

As our prime minister observed a growing intolerance among our people of dissent and opinions that contradict the prevailing orthodoxy, however they forget that what have caused such intolerance. He forget that every moment when we fight for our livelyhood, its their wrong decision and behaviour who claimed our peace. I fear sometime ,this intolerance behaviour of us shouldn`t break it`s boundaries and start a new civil war of existence. Dear politicians hope for the best and get prepared for the worst..
