Kolkata: The Kolkata Police on Wednesday warned
that there was a possibility of terrorists seeking sanctuary
in the metropolis and directed landlords against letting out
their premises without verifying the antecedents of tenants.
The police has received a report on terrorists and
anti-social elements looking for hideouts in residential areas
of North division, South division, Port division, Eastern
suburban division and Southeast division, an official release
said.
"There is every likelihood of breach of peace and
tranquillity and there is grave danger to human life and
safety
and injury to public property on that account.
"Therefore it is felt necessary some checks on
landlords and tenants so that terrorists, anti-social
elements in the guise of tenants may not cause riots or damage
to public property," it added.
It said contravention of the order was punishable.
