Kolkata: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will pay one-day visit to West Bengal on June 6 in a bid to rejuvenate his party in the state during which he is scheduled to undertake a padayatra and address party workers.

As per a tentative programme, Gandhi is scheduled to visit a jute mill in Hooghly district after his arrival, WBPCC general secretary Amitabha Chakrabarty said.

Later in the day, he would pay homage at the Mahatma Gandhi statue here after which he would undertake a padayatra from there to Netaji Indoor stadium where he would address party workers, Chakrabarty said.

He said that Gandhi would highlight the condition of the farmers in the state and apart from partymen, farmers would also participate in his padayatra.

The Congress is presently going through a rough patch as a number of party MLAs and leaders switched loyalty to rival Trinamool Congress in the last few years.
