Kolkata: In a relief for Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal, a stay has been ordered on registration of FIR and CID probe into his objectionable `rape and shoot` comments against women.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Girish Gupta and Justice T Chakraborty had heard the case earlier this month and had reserved its judgment till August 13.
The bench had extended the stay till August 14 on the execution of a single bench order directing registration of an FIR and CID probe against Pal for his objectionable comments against women.
Justice Dutta had earlier ordered registration of FIR and transfer of the case to CID.
Tapas Pal from Krishnanagar constituency had found himself in a controversy after a video surfaced where he was captured making threats of rape and violence towards members of opposition party.
Later, an FIR was filed against Pal for his offensive remarks against women.
Pal had told a gathering in Krishnanagar, "I will send my boys to their (attackers) homes and ask them to rape their women. If any of our Trinamool men are touched I will ensure that the CPI (M) is finished and ensure that their homes are burnt off," ANI reported.
The statements had led to an outcry against Pal with the National Commission for Women (NCW), along with many other activists and opposition leaders, demanding strict action against the MP for his threats.
Just a day after the rape remarks, a second video emerged of Pal, where he was seen asking TMC supporters to murder CPM supporters if required.
