Residents push out Maoists from WB village

In a rare incident, residents of a village in Junglemahal have refused to join a Maoist rally and forced the rebels to leave the area.

Jhargram (WB): In a rare incident, residents
of a village in Junglemahal have refused to join a Maoist
rally and forced the rebels to leave the area.

"The people of Radhanagar village, five km from Jhargram,
resisted the Maoist pressure to participate in a rally and
forced them to withdraw from the area yesterday," Jhargram SP
Praveen Tripathy said.
"This is a very positive sign. If such things continues,
the rebels won`t be able to penetrate into the villages," he
said.

A villager said, "Besides the Maoists, there were members
of PCPA too. They tried to take us to their rally, but we
didn`t give in to their demand."

"Previously they used to force us to join their rallies.
We did not have courage to protest. This is the first time we
raised protest. We don`t know what will happen to us in
future," said another villager.
Meanwhile, the villagers organised a rally protesting
against the atrocities by PCPA and Maoists and demanded
security and safety so that they can carry on with their
normal life, Tripathy said.

Police would provide security to the villagers who are
fearing revenge, he said.
