Kolkata: Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy was on Friday questioned for nearly five hours by the CBI in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam and later said he wanted the truth to come out and that justice should reach the poor who kept their money in the company.
Reiterating that he would cooperate with the probe agency, the TMC leader said, "I want the actual truth to come out. I told them (CBI) if they think it necessary, they can call me anytime, I can talk.
"Let the investigation proceed properly," he told reporters after nearly five hours of questioning at the CBI office at Salt lake here.
The former Railway minister, who faced three rounds of questioning, said, "From day one, I had stated that if the investigating agency calls me for the sake of investigation, I will join and cooperate. I came here at 10.30 in the morning as scheduled."
CBI sources said the TMC leader would be called again, but the date of his appearance was yet to be decided.
Later, Roy told a small meeting at Salt Lake, "Those poor people who kept their entire wealth with this company (Saradha), justice should not be denied to them."
"I thank the people of Bengal for showering love on me for so long," he told the meeting where those present did not carry party flags.
Roy, who interacted with the media in the city later, said, "I cooperated with the CBI. I want the truth to come out as to where the money of the poor people has gone".
In a stand on CBI probe which virtually goes against his party's, Roy said, "Even criticism is made about court verdict. One can have a view about the investigation by the probe agency but if the investigating agency issues summons, one should cooperate with it. That is why I have gone and cooperated as a law-abiding citizen."
TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee had earlier alleged that the CBI probe into the Saradha scam was politically motivated.
There was no reaction from any TMC leader after Roy's interrogation by CBI.
