Saradha scam: CBI arrests Madan Mitra, Trinamool says BJP playing politics of vindictiveness

Trinamool Congress on Friday hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the arrest of West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra in connection with the multi-crore rupee Saradha chit fund scam.

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress on Friday hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the arrest of West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra in connection with the multi-crore rupee Saradha chit fund scam.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Mitra in a case relating to Saradha Realty on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, misappropriation of funds as well as deriving undue financial benefits from the Saradha Group.

Bengal Minister and Trinamool leader Subrata Mukherjee termed his party colleagues arrest as politically motivated.

Mukherjee said, “Madan Mitra's arrest is politically motivated and BJP is playing politics of vindictiveness.”

The Trinamool leader questioned CBI's move to arrest Mitra saying that how can the state government and Assembly Speaker be kept in the dark before the arrest of a state Cabinet Minister.

Mitra, also the sports minister, was arrested following many hours of grilling by CBI sleuths at the agency office here.

The CBI also arrested Naresh Balodia, legal advisor to Sudipto Sen and Saradha Group on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and diversion of funds in the same case, he said.

Balodia had drafted the letter which Sudipto Sen had sent to the CBI, he said.

The CBI had earlier arrested two TMC MPs Kunal Ghosh and Srinjay Bose in connection with the Saradha scam.
