Saradha scam: Cells of Sudipta, Debjani searched after Kunal's suicide bid

Following the alleged suicide bid by Saradha scam accused Kunal Ghosh in a correctional home here on Friday, cells of Sudipta Sen and Debjani Mukherjee, main accused of the scam, were searched for medicines that could cause death, police said.

Kolkata: Following the alleged suicide bid by Saradha scam accused Kunal Ghosh in a correctional home here on Friday, cells of Sudipta Sen and Debjani Mukherjee, main accused of the scam, were searched for medicines that could cause death, police said.

This was part of a major search in which all cells of four major correctional homes in the city -- Presidency, Alipore Central, Alipore Central for Women and Dum Dum Central -- were combed after Ghosh allegedly took sleeping pills to kill himself, police said.

Saradha CMD Sudipta Sen and a senior company official Debjani Mukherjee are lodged in Alipore Central Correctional Home and Alipore Central Correctional Home for Women, respectively.

The jail authorities, however, did not divulge whether any medicine was found in the cells of the two.

After the suicide bid of Ghosh, suspended Trinamool Congress MP, in Presidency Correctional Home, its superintendent, jail doctor and on duty staff were placed under suspension.

Meanwhile, some time after the attempt of Ghosh, another undertrial prisoner also tried to commit suicide by consuming toilet cleaner phenyl in the same correctional home, the police said.

Md Ismail, the undertrial prisoner, was admitted to hospital and his condition was stated to be stable.
