Durgapur: Workers of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Sunday continued their protest against the arrest of West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra for the second consecutive day.
Mitra had been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday in connection with the Saradha chit-fund scam and has been remanded to CBI custody till December 16.
Angry protestors were seen holding placards expressing their displeasure over the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) move to arrest Mitra. The TMC workers also reportedly blocked several roads in the Burdwan district, including the national highway. According to reports, the Durgapur-Kolkata road was also reportedly blocked for more than one hour.
Taking strong exception to Mitra's arrest in connection with the multi-crore scam, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had on Friday termed his arrest 'illegal and unconstitutional'.
Last Month, TMC MP Srinjoy Bose had been arrested by the CBI in connection with the scam.
