At least seven people were killed and eleven injured in two road accidents in West Bengal.

Kolkata: At least seven people were killed and eleven injured in two road accidents in West Bengal on Monday, police said.

In the first incident, four members of a family were killed and two others seriously injured after the car in which they were travelling collided head on with a speeding truck in Hooghly district, police said on Monday.

"Four members of the same family, including two minors, were killed and two others grievously injured after their car hit a speeding truck coming from the other end," a police officer said.

Of those killed, three died on the spot, and one of the two injured died on way to the hospital, the officer added.

The other injured, who was initially admitted to a hospital in the district, has been referred to a city hospital.

The accident, which happened around 7.30 am, was caused because of over-speeding. The driver of the truck escaped from the spot, added the officer.

In the other accident in Kolkata, three people - including a woman - were killed and nine others received serious injuries after a state-run bus overturned near Deshapriya Park.

The injured have been admitted to the state-run SSKM Hopsital.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for families of each of those killed in the Deshapriya Park mishap.
