SFI students marching to Mamata`s residence not true: CPI-M
The Left Front denied that its supporters tried to gherao the residence of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee last evening following clashes between rival student unions.
Kolkata: The Left Front on Friday denied that
its supporters tried to gherao the residence of Trinamool
Congress chief Mamata Banerjee last evening following clashes
between rival student unions at a nearby college which left
one dead and nine injured.
"We will unmask her. She is claiming that SFI
supporters tried to attack her residence. It is not true.
We in the Left do not believe in demonstrating at residences
of Opposition parties and yesterday the SFI did not try to do
so," Left Front chairman Biman Bose told newspersons here.
"SFI supporters were squatting before a police station
and did not try to go to her house," he said.
He claimed SFI supporters were protesting the attack
by Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad and some `outsiders`
at the Ashutosh college and had squatted before the
Bhowanipore police station and Hazra crossing, far from
Banerjee had last night claimed that SFI students
planned to attack her residence at the behest of West Bengal
Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and had challenged the
Students Federation of India supporters to do so.
Bose alleged that Trinamool Congress was trying to
disrupt college unions by bringing in outsiders to create

terror," he alleged.
Condemning the death of Swapan Koley, a student of
Jagabandhi College in Howrah, and the eye injury of Souvik
Hazra of Asutosh College, both SFI supporters, Bose said that
the opposition was making a concerted effort to attack the
entire educational system.
