Purulia: Six persons were killed and four others seriously injured when a speeding SUV rammed into a stranded vehicle on NH 34 in Purulia district early Friday.
A senior district police official said the SUV, ferrying guests from a marriage reception, was coming from Balarampur in the district when it hit another sport utility vehicle parked on the arterial road from behind at around 4.30 am in district headquarters town of Purulia.
The deceased were all occupants of the vehicle which was travelling at high speed.
The four seriously injured were referred from Purulia Sadar Hospital to Jamshedpur Tata Memorial Hospital, the officer said.
The drivers of both vehicles were absconding.
