Midnapore: A local court on Thursday issued arrest warrant against 40 absconding accused in the skeleton recovery case in West Midnapore district in which former state minister Susanta Ghosh and 18 others are in jail.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Manoj Rai issued the arrest warrant against the absconders, including Ghosh's brother Prasanta, CPI(M) Krishak Sabha secretary Tarun Rai and Keshpur CPI(M) zonal secretary Imtiaz Ali.

Seven skeletons were dug up from near the ancestral residence of former Pashim Anchal Development minister Susanta Ghosh at Benchapra in the district on June two.

The son of a Trinamool Congress worker had claimed that he had recognised his father's remains from the clothes on one of the skeletons dug up from a pit near the former minister's residence.

Shyamal Achaya has claimed that his father Ajay was among seven Trinamool workers who were abducted by CPI(M) cadre after a meeting at Piyasala village in 2002 and were missing since then.

Ghosh, who was arrested on August 11 after his plea for extension of his bail was turned down, is the main accused in the case.
