Slain EFR jawans` kin to get compensation next week: Official

The West Bengal government would pay next week a compensation of Rs 15 lakh as announced to the next of kin of 24 EFR personnel killed last month in Maoist attack, state Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said on Saturday.

Maoist attack, state Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said on Saturday.

The families of the slain personnel would continue to
draw last salaries of the personnel till their scheduled date
of retirement, he told reporters here in West Midapore
district after a meeting with IG, Armed Police.
The jobs assured to one family member of each of the
jawans would be given after a state cabinet meet to decide on
the issue, he said.

On Febraury 15, a group of 60 to 70 Maoists attacked the
Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) camp in the hamlet of Silda in
West Midnapore district, killing 24 jawans.
When asked on Governor M K Narayanan`s instruction for
upgrading facilities at the EFR headquarters at Salua in the
district during his visit on February 26, Sen said a boundary
wall would be built besides new buildings, while arrangements
for supply of water would be made.

The state government had provided Rs three crore for
the purpose, he said.
