Split Kamatpuri factions reunite

Two Kamtapuri factions, Kamtapur People`s Party and Kamtapur Progressive Party, have been reunited after seven years.

Siliguri (WB): Two Kamtapuri factions,
Kamtapur People`s Party and Kamtapur Progressive Party, have
been reunited after seven years.

The Kamtapur Progressive Party was merged with Kamtapur
People`s Party in a meeting Monday, Atul Roy, who has been
elected as the president of the party, said.

Nikhil Roy was elected as the general secretary after the
merger of the two factions, he said.

Kamtapur People`s Party was founded in 1996 with Roy as
the president but because of difference of opinion among the
leaders it was split in 2003.

"As the ultimate goal of both the factions was to achieve
Kamtapur statehood and recognition of Kamtapuri language, we
decided to merge," Roy said.
