TC MLA escapes firing but party worker killed

Trinamool Congress MLA Tapan Chattopadhyay escaped unhurt but a party worker was killed when unidentified persons fired at the MLA.

when unidentified persons fired at the MLA outside Pratapnagar
Hospital in the border of Burdwan and Nadia districts, police
said on Tuesday.

Chattopadhyay, the MLA of Purbasthali Uttar seat in
Burdwan district accompanied by TC party workers including
Sajal Ghosh had gone to the Pratapnagar Hospital last night to
meet injured Trinamool Chhatra Parishad members, who had been
admitted to hospital after a clash with Student Federation of
India (SFI) members.

When they were coming out of the hospital last night
the unidentified persons fired at them. One of the bullets hit
Sajal Ghosh and he was declared dead at the hospital, Burdwan,
Superintendent of Police Humayun Kabir said.

Kabir said six persons including CPI(M) leader Pradip
Saha have been arrested in this connection.
Saha had unsuccessfully contested against Chattopadhyay
from the Purbasthali Uttar seat in the last assembly election.
