New Delhi: Indicating conspiracy, Trinamool Congress members in Lok Sabha on Thursday demanded a probe into an accident involving a truck and a car in which their leader Mamata Banerjee was travelling to Kolkata two days ago.
"There have been attempts earlier to kill her. She can be eliminated bodily from politics," party leader Sudip Bandopadhyay said during Zero Hour.
"Banerjee has Z-plus security. How is it that a lorry entered into her convoy when she was returning from Lalgarh (on Tuesday) and hit a car carrying police officials. Her car
was also hit," he said.
Maintaining that Banerjee was injured in the incident, he demanded an investigation to ascertain how the security of the convoy was breached.
"She is taking rest. She has not been hospitalised despite the doctors advising her to do so. You know she does not like to go to hospitals," Bandopadhyay said.
As he spoke, Basudeb Acharia (CPI-M) stood up and said the driver of the truck was immediately arrested and a CID enquiry ordered by the state government was already on.
"Why are they misleading the House? Why are they being allowed to mislead the House? They are raising the issue unnecessarily," Acharia said.
But Trinamool Congress members continued to shout him down, leading to protests from their Left counterparts.
Trying to cool down tempers, RJD chief Lalu Prasad said, "The House sends its good wishes to Banerjee and wishes that she should return to the House soon. As soon as she returns here, peace will return to the House."
On Tuesday, Banerjee had complained of chest pain after her car braked suddenly after one of her convoy vehicles was hit by a lorry. The incident had occurred near Kolaghat
when she was returning to Kolkata after addressing a rally at
