Kolkata: Trinamool Congress supporters on Monday staged demonstrations in front of the Writers` Building and several police stations condemning an incident on August 9 in which a truck hit a vehicle in Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee`s convoy while she was returning from Lalgarh.
57 TC supporters were arrested for demonstrating before the Writers` Buildings defying prohibitory orders. They were later let off.
The agitators alleged that the incident was a "conspiracy to eliminate her". Demonstrations were also held in front of several police stations across the city by TC supporters protesting the incident.
Banerjee, who had complained of chest pain after her car suddenly took a brake after the truck hit the car in her convoy, was advised by doctors to take rest.
Meanwhile, TC secretary-general Partha Chatterjee told reporters, "She is getting well gradually."
On when she would join Parliament, TC leader and Union minister Mukul Roy said, "It is not yet decided. The doctor treating her will advise for her free movement."
