Kolkata: Things are not that bad in West
Bengal as the perception created due to negative developments
like pulling out of the Tata`s Nano car project from the
state, a top official of a British business body said on Monday.

Kevin Mc Cole, COO of UK Business Council, said there
was a need to change the negative perception about the state,
which has several opportunities for investments.

"Things are not that bad as the present perception of
Bengal despite recent negative developments...Everyone should
do everything to change the perception," he said at an
interactive session with CII members here.

Mc Cole said there was a negative effect after stories
of Singur, the site of the Nano project, and other issues
concerning land acquisition appeared in the foreign media.

Though there were a lot of positive stories in 2004-05
which evoked interest among British investors, he said.

Mc Cole said most UK businesses did not require large
tracts of land and there was no reason for British businesses
to worry.

West Bengal remained in news for all wrong reasons
after Tata Motors pulled out its famous small car project last
year due to persistent protest from the locals.
