Kolkata: Three members of a family allegedly committed suicide in their residence at Jyangra in northern part of the city.
The deceased have been identified as Dipak Basudhar (65), Minakshi Basudhar (57) and their son Anirban Basudhar (36).
The bodies were recovered from their flat at around 1 AM, DC (DD) Bidhanagar Police Commissionerate Kankar Prasad Barui said today.
"The three seemed to have committed suicide probably by consuming some poisonous liquid on July 19 or July 20. We have also recovered a suicide note. The bodies were recovered by breaking open the door of their flat," Barui said.
"Both the father (Dipak) and son were suffering from incurable diseases. No foul play was suspected till now," he said.
"While Dipak was ailing with old age-related complications, their son Anirban was suffering from a bone marrow disease for a long time. The family was depressed with all these and probably has taken this drastic step out of frustration," Barui said.
The suicide note, which was found on the dining table, was dated July 19, Barui said, adding, that all the three committed suicide on the same date.
Bidhannagar Police officials said on getting a call from one relative of the family, police from Baguihati police station had gone to Basudhar's flat and broke open the main door, locked from inside and recovered the three bodies.
