TMC worker shot at following CPI(M)'s victory in Englishbazar

A Trinamool Congress party worker was shot Tuesday last night in his sleep in the outskirts of Malda town, in what police believe to be a case of post poll violence following announcement of the Municipal election results in the area.

Pintu Mondal (27) was shot at by unknown assailants through the window while he was asleep at Raipara, the official said today.

Mondol was rushed to Malda Medical College Hospital from where he was shifted to Kolkata as his condition deteriorated, the official said.

Trinamool Congress workers launched a road blockade this morning on the Malda-Manikchak road in protest against the shooting.

The official said political rivalry was suspected behind the incident.

Earlier yesterday, the CPI(M) which won Englishbazar ward no: 25 in the just concluded municipal elections, brought out a victory processionin the area and the processionists allegedly burst crackers in front of Mondal's house who protested, the official said.
