Suri: Birbhum district Trinamool Congress president Anubrata Mondal, accused of delivering a hate speech in July last year at Parui, was on Monday granted bail by a local court.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Indranil Chatterjee granted Mondal the bail against a personal bond of Rs 1,000, according to Assistant Public Prosecutor Kuntal Chatterjee.

The court had summoned him after a case was filed in the Parui police station in connection with his alleged provocative speech.

A charge sheet was filed by the investigating officer in the CJM's court on June 24, nearly a year after the hate speech was allegedly delivered by Mondol on July 17, 2014.

Mondal had allegedly instigated his party workers to hurl bombs on the police and torch houses of Independent candidates just before the 2013 state panchayet poll.

Though the court asked him to appear on July 7, Mondol chose to appear today, a full week in advance.

After securing bail, he told reporters, "I respect the court, that is why I appeared today following the court order. Now law will take its own course."
