A Trinamool Congress panchayat member was shot at and critically injured by motorcycle-borne miscreants this morning near his home at Gabboni village in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district.

Canning: A Trinamool Congress panchayat member was shot at and critically injured by motorcycle-borne miscreants this morning near his home at Gabboni village in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district.

Police said the miscreants came from behind and pumped two bullets into the panchayat member before fleeing.

The man, who is a TMC panchayat member of Charabidya village, was walking to the wholesale fish market at nearby Sarberia. He slumped to the ground and the villagers on hearing the shots rushed out and took him to the hospital, the police.

He was later taken to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.

Investigation into the incident is on and none have been arrested as yet.
