Basirhat (WB): Trinamool Congress` call
for a change in West Bengal was a conspiracy to forcibly take
back land given to landless farmers by Left Front since 1977,
Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee alleged on Saturday.

Noting that the people should be careful about the
`Trinamool plot` to snatch away land from farmers and give it
back to the jotedars, he said, "Our cadre will resist any move
to snatch back land from farmers given to them by the Front as
part of its land reforms policy since 1977."
Addressing a Left Front rally here in North 24
Parganas district, Bhattacharjee asked "What kind of change
will you accept? Development or violence, peace or unrest?
You have to be careful in choosing between these."

He mostly spoke about Trinamool in his 30-minute
speech but avoided naming party chief and Railway Minister
Mamata Banerjee.

Claiming that false assurances of jobs and development
were being given, he said, "We know how the Railways is
functioning. It is full of promises and speeches while there
is no provision of funds. Why are you giving false promises
of jobs to the young people? The call for a change is fraught
with doubtful consequences."

Claiming that the Left Front had successfully
implemented the three-tier panchayat system to give power to
the people at the grass-roots level, Bhattacharjee said, "The
Left Front was a forerunner in establishing the rights of the
people in panchayats. "We were the first in India to give land
deeds to the landless through land reforms."

Stating that this was the correct `change`, he alleged
that Trinamool Congress-controlled zila parishads in South 24
Parganas and East Midnapore districts had failed to deliver to
the people.

Reiterating his charge that Trinamool Congress had a
nexus with Maoists, he alleged that the party was creating an
atmosphere of terror and violence.
"This party has been collaborating with Maoists and
killing CPI-M leaders and workers in jungle mahal."

Claiming that the Trinamool Congress obstructed all
kinds of development work, he said it resisted acquisition of
land for industry to planting of electricity poles.

"It is the party`s principle to put up obstacles to
any development."

On Trinamool Congress` allegations that there was a
land scam at Rajarhat on the northern outskirts of the
metropolis he said, "This party has now turned to Rajarhat,
the pride of state`s housing sector which is housing 10
million people, and is bent on creating disturbances. This
party is interested only in destruction and not in creation."

Buddhadeb slams Congress for rising poverty

Congress is "totally responsible"
for the ever growing divide between the rich and poor in the
country where millionaires and impoverished live side-by-side,
West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said today.

"Along with world`s largest number of poor, hungry and
illiterate in our country, you can find the richest
crorepatis. It is the Congress which is totally responsible
for this situation," Bhattacharjee told a Left Front rally
here in North 24 Parganas district.

Without referring to the ongoing scandals, Bhattacharjee
said "We know how the government is being run in Delhi by the
Congress which is the party of the rich people."

The CPI(M) leader alleged the Centre of remaining
indifferent to the state government`s repeated pleas for
assistance in sustaining the public distribution system.
