Kolkata: Trinamool Congress on Wednesday denied
that its workers were engaged in extortion of money and blamed
the CPI(M) for post-poll violence in the state.
"Our party does not tolerate extortion activities and
such allegations are fabricated,`` All India Trinamool
Congress general secretary Mukul Roy said.
He said the party leadership is very much alert and
will not allow any indiscipline.
"Our party is fair enough. There was an orchestrated
campaign by the CPI(M) that if Trinamool comes to power, there
will be bloodbath. But despite having got such a huge mandate,
our party workers have remained restrained," Roy said.
He claimed Mamata Banerjee`s strong message to all
party supporters and workers that no violence should occur and
that they should be restrained had worked.
"Rather, the CPI(M) is indulging in violence in
different parts of the state," Roy alleged and claimed that 40
Trinamool Congress workers had been brutally murdered since
the elections.
In West Midnapore, skeletons of people killed during
the 34-year Marxist rule were still being discovered, he said.
