Kolkata: The student wing of West Bengal`s ruling Trinamool Congress on Wednesday said it would look into allegations of its members beating up a female student in a college here for being affiliated to the Left-wing Students` Federation of India (SFI).

"I have not been able to look into it (the issue of the girl being beaten up) yet but will do so. If there is any truth in the allegations then appropriate action will be taken. We want a peaceful atmosphere in all colleges," said Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad President Jaya Dutta.

A second-year student of Asutosh College in south Kolkata was allegedly "kicked and punched" by TMCP members in the college`s student union room last week. The students` union is controlled by the Trinamool`s student wing.

"They kicked and punched me and rained blows on me with a stick to teach me a lesson," said the second-year Geology Honours student, showing bruises and cuts on her arms.
