West Bengal minister and CPI(M) politburo member Nirupam Sen today said the Trinamool Congress`s landslide victory in the municipal polls was expected.

Kolkata: West Bengal minister and CPI(M)
politburo member Nirupam Sen today said the Trinamool
Congress`s landslide victory in the municipal polls was
expected.

"The results were somewhat expected. But only after
getting the detailed results can one say the percentage of
votes we have lost," Sen told newsmen.

Asked whether his party could repair the damage by the
next Assembly elections, he said, "people`s minds cannot be
changed overnight. We will go to the people with our policies
and programmes. Their support or rejection of our policies
will be reflected in the next (Assembly) elections."

Ruling out advancement of the Assembly polls scheduled
next year, the commerce and industry minister said it will
take place in due course.

Admitting that a section of supporters had turned away
from the Left parties, Sen said that there was an anti-Left
wave during the civic polls this time. "May be, people have
voted for a change."
