Kolkata: Two persons, including a child, died after coming into contact with a live wire at Thakurpukur area on the southern fringes of the city while local train movement was disrupted in the Sealdah south section as a squall, accompanied by rains, lashed several areas.

Police said both the 10-yr boy and his 42-yr old companion were electrocuted as they touched the wire which had snapped following the storm.

The storm also disrupted local train services in the Sealdah South section of Eastern Railway as a tree fell on the overhead line near Garia station, railway sources said.

Movement of trains in Sealdah-Lakshmikantapur, Sealdah-Canning and Sealdah-Diamond Harbour sections came to a halt since 6:30 pm.

The storm was accompanied by rains in some parts, bringing some relief for people from the oppressive heat conditions.
