Want to meet Mamata Banerjee: Bengal YC chief

West Bengal Youth Congress chief Mausam Benazir Noor on Monday said she wanted to meet CM Mamata Banerjee to discuss "attacks" on Congress workers.

Kolkata: West Bengal Youth Congress chief Mausam Benazir Noor on Monday said she wanted to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to discuss "attacks" on Congress workers allegedly by Trinamool Congress activists.

Without commenting on Banerjee`s outburst against the anti-government rally by Congress on Saturday, Mausam said, "I want to clarify the purpose of taking out the silent procession which was to highlight sustained attacks on Congress workers in different districts by Trinamool men."

A YC delegation recently met AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi in Delhi and informed him about partymen being attacked in West Bengal by Trinamool workers, she said.

"Rahulji assured us that he will talk to the Trinamool Congress leadership... False cases are being framed against Congress workers in many parts of the state and the police remains a spectator when their attention is drawn to atrocities by Trinamool Congress," Mausam said.

Congress MP Deepa Dasmunshi was also part of Saturday`s silent procession.

The rally had evoked sharp reaction from the Chief Minister who had asked Congress to choose between Trinamool Congress and CPI(M) as allies.

Yesterday, Union Minister and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had strongly defended the rally saying his party had not taken "VRS or sanyas" from West Bengal and would not take unsolicited advice from anyone, but continue to speak its mind on issues concerning the state.
