WB: CID submits progress report on Netai probe to HC
The CID Friday submitted a report to the Calcutta High Court about the progress of investigation into the January 7 massacre at Netai village in West Midnapore district that left nine people dead.
Kolkata: The CID Friday submitted a report
to the Calcutta High Court about the progress of investigation
into the January 7 massacre at Netai village in West Midnapore
district that left nine people dead.
The report, in a sealed envelope, was submitted to the
division bench of Chief Justice J N Patel and Justice Asim Roy
in response to their earlier direction to the CID to submit a
progress report of the investigations.
The state government submitted a separate affidavit to
the division bench which is hearing a PIL on the matter filed
by the Calcutta High Court Bar Association.
Advocate-general Balai Roy submitted that no fresh
arrest has been made since the court last heard the matter.
The state government had also not issued any public
advertisement notifying the names of the absconders, Roy
submitted, adding, efforts were on to trace them.
Appearing for the Bar Association, Somnath Bose
submitted that while the incident occurred on January 7, the
CID visited the spot on February 9. It was only on January 14
when the house from where the villagers were fired upon, was
Stating that the CID investigations lacked
credibility, he said the Bar Association had requested the
investigation to be transferred to another agency.
The bench will hear the matter again on February 15.
