Kolkata: With campus violence in West Bengal leaving a student dead and another seriously injured in the eye on Thursday, Governor MK Nayaranan on Saturday said that he would speak to Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

"I made an appeal. I will talk to the chief minister and others," Nayaranan told reporters on the sidelines of a programme here.

Asked whether he would convene an all-party meeting to end campus violence, the governor said he would take a decision on it.

Stating that educational institutions should not be an arena for `violent political confrontations` Narayanan in his appeal yesterday had said that campus violence, even in some renowned institutions, was leading to serious injuries and even fatalities which was tragic and was adversely affecting the image of the state.
