Kolkata: West Bengal government on Tuesday
condemned the killing of the abducted Jharkhand police
inspector Francis Induwar by Maoists.
"We strongly condemn the brutal killing. Nothing great
could be achieved by beheading someone," state Chief Secretary
Asok Mohan Chakraborty said here.
Describing the act as "nothing but terrorism", he said
Maoists were killing people in similar way in West Bengal.
The state government was trying to stop killing,
abduction and extortion of money and restore normalcy in the
disturbed areas in the state.
Security has already been beefed up in different places,
he said regretting that Maoists have so far killed over 70
people here.
"We have no other alternative but to act against such
terrorism against the state," he said calling upon the media
to write against Maoists highlighting their misdeeds.
Induwar, an inspector with Jharkhand Special Branch, had
been kidnapped on September 30 by the Maoists from Hembrom
Bazaar in Khunti district, about 70 km from Ranchi.
The Maoists earlier said the police officer could be
released only after rebels Kobad Ghandy, Chhatradhar Mahato
and Bhusan Yadav, arrested on different dates and places, were
freed.
