Kolkata: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a
Trinamool Congress worker on Sunday afternoon in the Kestopur area
of the city`s northern fringes.
Four men fired at Swapan Mondal who was standing in
front of a club on VIP road in the area.
A seriously wounded Mondal was taken to a private
nursing home where he succumbed to his injuries, SP of North
24-Parganas district Champak Bhattacharya said.
Soon after the incident, Trinamool Congress activists
and local people blockaded the road in protest.
Union Minister of State for Urban Development Sougata
Roy and West Bengal Food Minister Jyotipriya Mullick visited
the nursing home.
``This is not a political matter. The Trinamool Congress
worker has been killed by anti-socials,`` Roy later told
newsmen.
