Bolpur (WB): A former CPI(M) MLA was on Tuesday
shot dead allegedly by some Trinamool Congress activists in a
retaliatory attack in Nanoor block near here, police said.

Ananda Das was shot at from close range at the CPI(M)
zonal committee office in Nanoor, and was pronounced dead at
the primary health centre there, they said.
The incident, police said, was an offshoot of an attack
allegedly by some CPI(M) workers on Trinamool Congress local
leader Samsul Huda earlier in the day.

Huda was rushed to Bolpur hospital and later shifted to
Burdwan medical college and hospital in a critical condition.

According to the police, four armed men shot at TMC
leader Huda while he was returning from party office at
Nanoor.

Enraged at the incident, hundreds of Trinamool
supporters went on the rampage at CPI(M) zonal committee
office, hurled bombs and assaulted party members, they said.
Police rushed to the spot, but there was no report of any
arrest.
