West Bengal: Assessment for development in Maoist-hit areas begins

As part of government`s plan to push development in Moist-hit areas, a senior Planning Commission official on Thursday held meetings with the district officers of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia to discuss growth plans.



Midnapore (WB): As part of government`s plan to push development projects in Moist-hit areas, a senior Planning Commission official on Thursday held meetings with the district officers of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia district to discuss growth-related plans in the areas.
"As part of Centre`s comprehensive development in
Maoist-hit areas, advisor to Planning Commission L P Sonekar
held meetings with the block development officers of Jungle
Mahal areas of West Bengal," District Magistrate of West
Midnapore Narayan Swarup Nigam told agency.

Jungle Mahal consists of Maoist-hit forested areas of
West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia districts.
Sonekar came for an assessment of the areas and to
understand the immediate needs of the Naxal-affected areas to
chalk out the quantity of investment needed, another
government official said.

Similar assessment work would be carried out in
Jharkhand, Orissa, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and
Maharashtra, he said.
