Kolkata: West Bengal Congress on Saturday demanded central security forces for the upcoming Assembly bypoll for two seats.
State Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Chouwdhury met Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi and sought his intervention in the peaceful conduct of bypolls.
"We fear violence and have demanded that central paramilitary forces must be present at every booth," the Congress leader told reporters after the meeting at Raj Bhawan.
He said he also briefed the Governor on the law and order situation in the state.
Bypolls will be held on September 13 for the two Assembly constituencies of Chowringhee and Basirhat (south).
