Kolkata: Bharatiya Janata Party leader and actor Roopa Ganguly of teleserial ‘Mahabharat’ fame will take on Trinamool Congress candidate Laxmi Ratan Shukla in Howrah North.

While the actress-turned-politician Roopa Ganguly is West Bengal BJP's women's wing chief, Shukla is a former Indian cricketer.

Former state BJP chief Rahul Sinha will contest the high voltage Bengal elections from Jorasanko in Kolkata.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's grand nephew Chandra Bose will try his luck against West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee.

Jailed Trinamool leader and former transport minister Madan Mitra has been pitched against BJPs Krishanu Mitra from Kamarhati.

BJP leaders Ritesh Tiwari and Amitabha Roy will contest from Chowringhee and Barrackpore respectively.

BJP has declared its candidates for 246 seats in the 294-member state Assembly.

West Bengal will see balloting on seven dates: April 4, 11, 17, 21, 25 and 30 and May 5.
