Will seek rollback of entry tax on sugar in Punjab: BJP

The Punjab unit of BJP Monday slammed ruling alliance partner SAD for imposing an entry tax on sugar procured from other states and said it was not "taken into confidence" about the move.

Jalandhar: The Punjab unit of BJP Monday slammed ruling alliance partner SAD for imposing an entry tax on sugar procured from other states and said it was not "taken into confidence" about the move.

"BJP was not taken into confidence about the state government's decision to impose an entry tax of 11 per cent on sugar.

"The party will raise the matter with the state government and demand the rollback of the order," Punjab BJP chief Kamal Sharma said here at a programme to highlight the achievements of the Narendra Modi government upon its completion of one year in office.

Sharma said that the BJP government's achievements in the last year overshadow the 10-year rule of the previous UPA regime.

Even as he criticised the state government over the entry tax for sugar, Sharma, however, ruled out any speculation that BJP would fight the Assembly elections alone in Punjab.
