Bama: Witnesses say Islamic extremists have killed 115 people and set ablaze some 1,500 buildings during another round of attacks in northeast Nigeria, where local leaders say the army is outgunned by better-motivated militants.

The region`s traditional ruler, the "shehu" or king of Bama, has accused the national government of lacking interest in stopping the Muslim uprising in the northeast, which is distant from the oil fields that make Nigeria the biggest petroleum producer in Africa.

Kyari Ibn Elkanemi`s palace was razed during Wednesday`s attacks.
Akura Satomi, a commander of youth vigilantes in the town of Bama, said they have buried 98 people who were shot, beheaded or burned in the attacks. The town`s chief nurse said 17 others among approximately 200 wounded died in the hospital.
