Jerusalem: Israeli police say two
suspected leaders of one of the country`s most powerful crime
families are being extradited to the US to face murder, drug
and racketeering charges.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says US marshals
escorted brothers Itzhak and Meir Abergil onto a plane to Los
Angeles.
Israel arrested the men in 2008 after a US court
charged them with using a San Fernando Valley gang to
distribute 1 million ecstasy pills and paying a gang member to
kill a man for stealing a drug shipment.
Police say the Abergils head a powerful crime
syndicate with interests in drugs and gambling.
One of their lawyers, Avigdor Feldman, told Israel
radio he believes there is not enough evidence against his
clients and they will be freed soon.
