Cairo: Egypt's army killed two militants and has arrested nearly 300 people, including terrorists and illegal immigrants, in raids in the restive North Sinai region, the military said on Wednesday.
During the period from September 4 - 9, the army arrested 94 militants as well as 203 illegal immigrants of different nationalities, military spokesperson Brigadier General Mohamed Samir said.
The army has also destroyed 9 tunnels, 13 vehicles and 44 motorcycles used by militants in attacks targeting police and army, he said.
North Sinai has witnessed many violent attacks by militants since the January, 2011 Egyptian Revolution that toppled long-time dictator Hosni Mubarak.
The militant attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi last year.
Many policemen and soldiers have been killed in the attacks.
