Rostov-on-Don (Russia): Authorities in
Russia`s violence-plagued south say two militants have been
killed in the province of Dagestan.
Provincial police spokesman Magomed Tagirov says the
militants were surrounded and killed late today in a shootout
in their house on the outskirts of the central town of
Khasav-Yurt.
He says police found arms and ammunition in the house.
The Itar-Tass news agency reported that the killed were
identified as part of a militant group that attacked police
and military officers, and recruited local youngsters.
Dagestan is gripped by nearly daily violence due to
criminal groups and insurgents, many of whom apparently are
inspired by separatist rebels in the neighbouring republic of
Chechnya.
