Beijing: Over 3,000 residents of an east China city had be evacuated after poisonous ammonia gas leaked out from a factory, sickening 10 people.

About 1.4 tonnes of the pungent industrial gas leaked as a valve was accidentally knocked off at a factory in Zhejiang province`s Leqing city, Xinhua reported.

Ten people remained hospitalised last night, after the incident of leak in late afternoon, officials said. Inhalation of a large amount of ammonia can cause lung hydropsy or even death in serious cases.
