800 Indonesians joined IS, says official

Security has been beefed all across the country, including in capital Jakarta.

Jakarta: A total 800 Indonesian citizens have reportedly joined the Islamic State (IS) terror group, and 52 of them have been reported dead, a senior official said on Monday.

Indonesian Security Chief Minister Luhut Panjaitan said that of the 800 people, 284 have been identified, Xinhua news agency reported.

"We have identified involvement of foreign terrorist group in Indonesia and arrested their members," Panjaitan said, adding that IS has used various ways and facilities for its recruitment in the country.

Indonesia has been on high alert recently for possible terror strikes following return of over 80 militants from Syria as well as the attack threats from Santoso, a terrorist group based in Poso of Central Sulawesi province.
