Beijing: Chinese police have rescued 89 children from traffickers, the government said Monday.
Nine child trafficking rings were busted and over 350 criminals were arrested as part of a crackdown launched Dec 18, Xinhua quoted the public security ministry as saying.

Raids were conducted in Fujian, Yunnan, Sichuan, Anhui and Guangdong regions.

Children were shifted to nursing homes and the police were searching for their parents.

"We will collect the children`s DNA and use it to find their parents within a national DNA database established for anti-trafficking purposes," Chen Shiqu, director of the anti-trafficking office at the ministry, said.

Human trafficking is a serious problem in China. Infants, particularly males, are sold to needy childless couples.
