Beijing: Over 100 people including 92 children were on Wednesday hospitalised in China after a major fire broke out at a flower shop in country's eastern Fujian province.

The fire started in the flower shop at Ningde city and spread through the building to the kindergarten located on the second floor, state-run Xinhua news agency reported today.

Firefighters and residents rescued all the children attending a kindergarten on the second floor of the building, however, many sustained injuries.

Some children were thrown to safety by adults in the kindergarten while others were waiting to catch them on the ground.

Witnesses reported seeing hundreds of people crowding the site as all the windows of the kindergarten were being smashed.

A total of 104 people - 92 children and 12 adults - were rushed to a nearby hospital. All are in stable conditions.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
